SUMMARY:Lake Wisconsin TMDL Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder where the algae comes from that effects Lake Wisconsin most summers? Ever wonder what YOU could do to help prevent the algae blooms? Your questions will be answered on June 14 at 6:00 PM at the Lodi Town Hall located at W10919 County Road V Lodi\, WI 53555. \n  \nMatthew Diebel\, PhD\, and Kevin Kirsch PE from the Wisconsin DNR will be presenting some of the results from the DNR’s extensive TMDL study looking at phosphorus loads up and down the Wisconsin River\, from the headwaters to Lake Wisconsin. It is\, for the most part\, the phosphorus loads that cause the algae blooms we experience. \n  \nWhat we\, the Lake Wisconsin community\, the state of Wisconsin and all communities along the Wisconsin River can do to help reduce phosphorus loads is in part the question. If we ignore these elevated phosphorus loads\, we can be assured of an increase in algae blooms and a decrease in property values and recreational opportunities. Of all the communities up and down the Wisconsin River our community should be very concerned/involved; as we are the recipient of all things flowing down river. \n  \nThe Lake Wisconsin Alliance (LWA) invites you to participate in this very important discussion\, as it is your future that will be affected if we do not do all we can to reduce phosphorus loading throughout the Wisconsin River basin. SUMMARY:Columbia County Shoreland Zoning Presentation
DESCRIPTION:In response to recent changes to Wisconsin Administrative Code Chapter NR 115 and 2015 Wisconsin Acts\n55 and 167\, Columbia County is required to update their Shoreland‐Wetland Protection Ordinance by\nOctober 1\, 2016 in order to comply with State requirements. Under 2015 Wisconsin Act 55\, Wisconsin\ncounties cannot be more restrictive in their shoreland regulations and therefore must adopt the standards\nset by the State. Columbia County Planning & Zoning staff will be conducting presentations at the locations\nlisted below to explain the new requirements and answer any questions the public may have. Shoreland\nowners\, contractors\, landscapers\, lake association members\, and those who live\, play\, or work near a lake\,\nriver\, or stream in Columbia County are encouraged to attend one of these presentations. \nPresentation Schedule: Columbia County Shoreland Zoning Presentations \nAll presentations will run from 6:00-8:00pm

SUMMARY:January Education Seminar: "Update on Nearshore Fishery Survey on Lake Wisconsin"
DESCRIPTION:The Lake Wisconsin Alliance (LWA) will host its first educational meeting for 2016 at the Lodi Town Hall\, W10919 County Road V\, on Thursday\, January 7th from 6:00-8:00pm.  LWA received a Prairie du Sac Dam Aquatic Resources Enhancement Fund grant from Alliant Energy to conduct nearshore fishery surveys on Lake Wisconsin in 2015 and 2016. Dave Marshall and Tim Larson have been contracted by LWA to conduct the surveys and will present the results from the first year. \nNearshore fish populations have been described as “canaries in the coal mine” but are not routinely surveyed since they offer no perceived or direct economic benefit associated with sport fish populations.  These sensitive fish populations provide important ecological linkages that may reveal lake-ecosystem stresses even before traditional trophic state index (TSI) parameters reveal water quality problems.  Nearshore fish populations are represented by a diversity of species\, including Threatened\, Special Concern and other environmentally intolerant groups.  The presence and absence of these often overlooked fish populations can also reveal important information on nearshore habitat conditions and can be used to assess habitat restoration projects. \nThe Lake Wisconsin Alliance (LWA) is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization that endeavors to balance the diverse interests of the Lake Wisconsin community while improving water quality\, recreational opportunities\, and sustaining a healthy ecosystem within the Lake Wisconsin watershed. \nIf you have questions about this event\, feel free to contact Melissa Keenan at 608-355-4838\, or mkeenan@co.sauk.wi.us.
