There are many ways in which you can become involved in the Lake Wisconsin Alliance ranging from one-time events to a role of leadership as a member of the Board of Directors. In order to be considered, you must be a member in good standing.
Below is a listing of some of these ways and descriptions as to what you can expect if you commit.
Standing Committees
Committees are appointed by the Board President for a one year term. Meetings are on an as needed basis.
Education Committee
The LWA education committee is focused on educating LWA members and the general public about Lake Wisconsin and the different issues facing the lake. The LWA education committee encourages LWA members and the general public to take steps in making Lake Wisconsin an enjoyable place to live and recreate on.
The LWA education committee has the following responsibilities:
- Provide outreach and education resources through the LWA website.
- Organize bi-monthly education seminars on various topics.
Communication Committee
The overall objective of the Communications Committee is to establish an effective information sharing process to connect the Lake Wisconsin Alliance (LWA) activities to its members, and the public.
The committee will have the following responsibilities:
- Develop a communication plan.
- Issue pre and post press releases on LWA activities
- Continuous upgrading and maintenance of the current LWA website and Facebook page.
Develop and maintain databases in relevant areas.
- City, Village and Township leadership
- Media contacts
- Legislative leadership
Work in close cooperation with the other committees of LWA to provide timely and relevant information to LWA members. The type of information provided would include information on:
- Lake Wisconsin area activities
- Legislative actions affecting Lake Wisconsin
- Educational opportunities
- Resource material availability
Membership Committee
This committee designs and implements ways to attract new members and retain current members. Compiling the member information database is also an important responsibility.
Topical Task Forces
In addition to the standing committees, Topical Task Forces are created for a specific responsibility, project or interest area. Some task forces are underway while others have yet to be launched. Those that have been identified are as follows:
- Secchi Disc Water Testing: Trained by DNR to test lake water clarity in a designated-on water location and report results.
- Invasive Species Monitoring: To be created to monitor plants and fish not native to our watershed.
- LWA Annual Meeting Planning: Assist in the planning and implementation of the Annual Meeting of the Lake WI Alliance.
Lake Wisconsin Alliance Board Director
Board members are elected at the LWA Annual Meeting for a three-year term. Requirements to be considered:
- A demonstrated commitment to the purpose of the organization.
- An ability to make a positive and material contribution to the operation of the organization.
- A commitment to participate actively as a director by attending meetings, serving on committees,
Board members may not have any more than 3 unexcused absences.
Officers of the LWA Board are elected from and by the members of the board promoting the goals of the organization and participating in the activities of the organization.
